To apply for a position at UNC Charlotte Police & Public Safety, an on-line application, available at the Human Resources Website, must be completed. The application will not be forwarded to Police & Public Safety unless BLET certification is noted in the proper space. When all criteria are met, a Personal History Statement (F-3 application) will be mailed and then must be completed, notarized and returned.

Become a Police Officer

Upon review of the Personal History Statement, a formal interview is scheduled. As the process continues, a thorough background investigation will be conducted along with a medical, drug and psychological screening.  The successful applicant will then be scheduled for an interview with the Chief of Police or designee.

Ride Along Request Process

The UNC Charlotte Police and Public Safety Department provides a Ride Along Program for those who are interested in a career in Law Enforcement or would like to experience another perspective of the UNC Charlotte community. The Ride Along Program requires the approval of the P&PS Chief or designee.

But What If I'm a Student?

Students interested in working for UNC Charlotte Police & Public Safety (P&PS) must first contact the Student Employment Office and complete all required documentation including an I-9 packet. After proper credentials have been verified and the student registers with student employment, P&PS should be contacted for an interview request. Student employees must be enrolled in at least one class per semester and if (s)he withdraws from the University (s)he must cease working the date of official withdrawal.  Federal guidelines prohibit students from working more than 20 hours per week and all student employees must submit to background and fingerprint checks.
