Safety and security at UNC Charlotte is a campus-wide mission. Below are some departments that provide safety and security services, programs, training, and coordination.

University Police

The UNC Charlotte Police Department is committed to providing a safe working, living and learning environment through a community oriented policing philosophy that emphasizes crime prevention and crime solving through partnerships, education and awareness programs, pro-active patrolling and quality officer training. We provide general and emergency services, and we enforce state laws and university policies on campus twenty-four hours a day, seven-days a week.

Threat Assessment

In order to address incidents of threats and/or violent behavior and contribute to a safe campus enviroment, individuals are encouraged to report any and all potential threats or violent behaviors on the part of employees, former employees, students, former students, vendors, visitors and guests. If there is an imminent threat, immediately contact Police and Public Safety at 704-687-2200. In the event that the potential threat and/or violent behavior is not imminent, individuals are encouraged to complete a Concern for an Indiviual Report. In instances where you may be unsure if your concerns or the behaviors you are observing warrant a threat assessment report, you are welcome to consult with the Threat Assessment and Management Coordinator. Together you can discuss the behaviors you have observed and your concerns, and make a decision about the best course of action. Occupational Safety and Health

The Department of Environmental Health and Safety’s Occupational Safety and Health Section is committed to providing state of the art consultative services to assist UNC Charlotte in fostering a safe and healthy campus environment. We are a team of safety & health professionals with expertise in industrial hygiene, safety management, employee training, and injury prevention. Our work involves interactions among many subject areas, including industrial hygiene, public health, and safety engineering. Our team develops and implements University-wide safety and health programs to provide employees with relevant and clear safe work procedures and to comply with applicable state and federal employee safety regulations.

Student Health Services

The UNC Charlotte Student Health Center provides primary medical care, disease prevention, health education, wellness promotion, and various specialty services to all registered UNC Charlotte students, regardless of the type of health insurance they carry. UNC Charlotte Police advisory Committee

The UNC Charlotte Police Advisory Committee’s goals are to build upon police training, procedures and data collection practices that effectively support and promote racial equity in campus policing. Together, we will strengthen partnerships with other campus departments to facilitate alternative and/or shared responses to certain crises. Contributions from the Police Advisory Committee, which is comprised of students, faculty and staff will help in maintaining continuous safety and security for our campus community.
